Begin, Began and Begun

My answer to the question of whether we could use began in place of begun. Here is an explanation began is the simple past tense, begun is the past participle.
So we have learned recently when we talk of the "relative" present, eg I have lived in Seattle for several years. (true now and for some years previous). Similarly, I have begun cycling to work.
