Is our Life like a Dream?

I believe that life is like a dream. When we dream sometimes we are happy and sometimes we are afraid but when we awake from the dream we see nothing.

One night when I was sixteen, I dreamt I was very happy with plenty of money and other desirable things, but when I awoke in the morning I really regretted that it was not true.

In real life, people are extremely attached to material things and forget the meaning of life. We are always abandoning one thing and adopting another. Similarly, we lose sight of our humanity when we embrace our friends but banish our enemies. Our enemies are human too. So, let us consider the difference between enemies and friends. What guarantee is there that the relative will never be against us? Everything in this world is precarious. Today's friend is tomorrow's enemy.

In fact, we attach to our habitual tendencies and think everything that we have today will exist tomorrow. None of us likes to believe our lives are so transitory. We are always waking from this short dream of life. When we realize that we are awaking from our dream, we feel bad and regret our negative roles in the past.

We spend our lives trying to accumulate wealth, but in the end, when we won't even have the strength to move a strand of hair, we will surely not have the strength to take our material wealth with us. Whatever we take with us is only the positive and negative deeds. Stay awake and be good HUMAN BEINGS!

Great thoughts Lhakpa,
I have had similar dreams of treasures and been disappointed on waking. However, I believe these dreams are pointing to the wealth we have and are ignoring in our daily lives. This wealth could be our relationships, our ability to love and forgive, our seeing beyond judgemental attitudes, our intuitive abilities, our outlook on life, experience etc.. essentially the blessings we have.
Such treasures live beyond this existence, our deeds affect others now and in the future when our names will be forgotten by history. Our actions will be part of the anonymous amorphous future of humanity.

Hi Lhakpa. Jiri told me that you'd posted some very "deep" and philosophical thoughts on the blog, so I thought I better check it out. I can relate to your experience with dreams, but sometimes the opposite happens to me: I dream about horrible things happening, or doing things that I regret. When I wake up I am so relieved to realize that it was just a dream. Those dreams serve as reminders of what I value and who I want to be.
